System expansion

Embodied Carbon, The Inventory of Carbon and Energy (ICE), By Prof. Geoffrey Hammond and Craig Jones, Ed. Fiona Lowrie and Peter Tse, published by BSRIA in 2011, defines system expansion as: ‘The expansion of system boundaries to include other processing operations (e.g. indirectly affected activities). This is often applied to assess the benefit of avoided burdens.’
